Big Life Society was named after my grandmother, Ruth. She was a 1950s housewife in a difficult marriage. When the marriage ended, she blossomed — becoming a professional artist, traveling the world, having adventures, taking lovers, and living life on her own terms. My aunts called it her Big Life. She lived on a modest income but found a way to live according to her heart and soul with what she had.

Decades later, here I am, her granddaughter Persephone, living my own version of that experience. I left the Mormon church after growing up as the daughter of zealous converts, and I left an unhealthy long-term marriage. Today, I live as a healer and author on my own terms, in my own ways. I don’t preach from a pulpit — I live it daily and the road has been long and hard at times, but worth it. It brings me joy to help others discover and live their own versions of a Big Life.

Since 2013 I've been doing the kind of work I now do with others — navigating my way out of a high demand religion, through divorce and widowhood, and starting from scratch over and over. I know what it is to have the life you built collapse and to have to find out who you are when nobody is telling you anymore.
​
I'm on the other side of that now. And the other side looks like this: coffee and a novel in bed with my cat, getting tattooed in a back alley basement in Tokyo, golden palaces in Rome, friends in Houston, grown kids living their Big Lives around the country. For me a Big Life is both peaceful and wildly alive. I want that for you too.
​
Because I am neurodivergent, queer, and have a traumatized background, my work is neurodivergent and LGBTQI+ friendly. I understand the specific weight of existing outside what you were told was normal.

You don't have to explain yourself here. The work begins where you already are.
